Dave Thurman is a lifelong Raytown resident whose decades of volunteerism, civic leadership, and community pride have made him a trusted ambassador for his hometown.
Dave Thurman has spent a lifetime investing in Raytown—not just as a resident, but as a champion of community spirit and service. A lifelong Raytown local and graduate of Raytown South High School, Dave has lived in the city for more than six decades.
Alongside his wife Daneen, he has raised a family, built a career in real estate, and become a fixture at events across town—often behind the lens of his camera, capturing moments that showcase the heart of the community he loves.
For over 16 years, Dave has served as a dedicated member of the Raytown Chamber of Commerce and Tourism, including two terms on the Board of Directors. He is currently part of the Chamber’s “Looking Towards 2026” Committee, helping Raytown prepare for the anticipated influx of visitors during the FIFA World Cup. His long-running involvement in civic planning reflects his forward-thinking mindset and deep pride in the city’s future.
In addition to his work with the Chamber, Dave has served on the Raytown Parks Board for more than 12 years and has played an active role in the Raytown Live Summer Concert Series Committee for the past seven years. A past member of the Three Trails Kiwanis Club, his service extends into every corner of the city—from parks and public events to business development and youth programs.
Beyond his organizational commitments, Dave has given countless hours to mentoring young people as a youth baseball coach for more than a decade and as Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 550 for six years. His dedication to building community has been just as evident in his professional life, where he has worked as a realtor to welcome new families to Raytown and promote it as a place where people can truly put down roots.
Whether serving on a board, coaching a team, or simply sharing photos that celebrate the city’s energy and people, Dave Thurman has been a tireless ambassador for Raytown. For his decades of volunteerism, leadership, and unwavering community pride, he is being honored as the 2025 Raytown Citizen of the Year.
