Students completing the FAFSA for the 2024-2025 school year should be aware of important updates. Read below for details.

What is the FAFSA?

The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It is a form that collects demographic and financial information to determine your financial need for college.

Why is the FAFSA needed in my THCF General Application for scholarships?

**Important Update as of 2/5/2024 Regarding the FAFSA: THCF has decided to shift away from requiring the FAFSA Submission Summary report in our General Application. Instead, students will be required to upload their FAFSA submission confirmation email showing their estimated Student Aid Index (SAI).

THCF uses the report that is issued to you once your FAFSA application has been submitted and processed, called the FAFSA Submission Summary, in assessing the financial need of our scholarship applicants for those scholarships that consider financial need.

Students may also use the Federal Student Aid Estimator if they are unable to provide the FAFSA submission confirmation email.

FAFSA timeline changes for 2024

The federal government is updating the FAFSA for the 2024-2025 school year. The FAFSA will be available by December 31, 2023. It is normally available in October each year.

How does the FAFSA timeline change affect my THCF General Application for scholarships?

The application timeframe for THCF General Application scholarships has been adjusted due to the FAFSA changes delaying its opening. The General Application will be available beginning December 15, 2023, and will be due April 1, 2024, including all essays, letters of recommendation, and other requirements specific to scholarships you may be matched with through the General Application.
