Michael VanBuskirk has spent more than two decades strengthening the civic, educational, and economic fabric of Lee’s Summit. While his professional accomplishments as Vice Chairman of Newmark Zimmer include over $2.1 billion in commercial real estate transactions, it’s his quiet generosity and steadfast commitment to community service that define his legacy.

A longtime resident and active civic leader, Michael is often the one helping behind the scenes—bringing people together, offering thoughtful counsel, and stepping into leadership when it matters most. He has served on countless city committees and advisory groups, including the City Hall Task Force, Economic Development Planning Committee, Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Commission, and the Civic Roundtable, where he currently serves as Vice Chair.

One of his most significant contributions has been to the Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council (EDC). During a period of transition and uncertainty, Michael stepped up as Board Chair, helping restore trust, rewrite bylaws, and reestablish key partnerships with the City. His leadership not only stabilized the organization—it repositioned it for long-term success and stronger community alignment.

Michael’s generosity shows in his support of local nonprofits, schools, and healthcare organizations. He’s a vocal advocate for the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District and has advised on school bond initiatives and long-range planning. His firm, Newmark Zimmer, has also been an active supporter of Saint Luke’s Health System and civic initiatives across the region—many of which he’s helped champion personally.
