Did you know that more than 80% of Americans don't have a firm grasp on how foundations operate or make decisions?

That's according to a recent study conducted by the Council on Foundations and the University of Florida’s Center for Public Interest Communications. But don't worry; your community foundation is not some kind of magical or mysterious entity - the only magic we have is the amazing transformation your philanthropy can have on a community.

In fact, a community foundation is simply a group of people coming together to pool their resources to better support their charitable causes. It's like a potluck, but instead of food, everyone brings their generosity and kindness to the table. And just like a potluck, people of all financial means can participate in pooling resources, so there are more goodies to go around.

At Truman Heartland Community Foundation, we offer a variety of charitable vehicles to help individuals and families give back to their community in a tax-wise and effective manner. Donor advised funds, scholarship funds, endowment funds, you name it - we've got it. Plus, we offer personalized services to help you achieve your philanthropic goals.

Community foundations are governed by a volunteer board of directors made up of community leaders from every sector, with everyone bringing their unique gifts and contributions to the table. At THCF, we also have four advisory boards representing several different areas of suburban Eastern Jackson County. In addition, we support local high school students in philanthropy through the Youth Advisory Council (YAC). It is important that no matter the age or income bracket, everyone is welcome at the community foundation table.

So, if you want to make a difference in your community, there's really no mystery to it - just reach out to Cole Eason, VP of Advancement at your friendly neighborhood community foundation. We are here to help you use your private giving for the public good. And we promise not to make any more cheesy food-related puns!
