The Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) has started a new social engagement program, Give 5, and they are looking for people from our area to sign up. Take 5 is targeted toward active retirees (those 60 years old and older) looking to make an impact on their communities. Participants commit to five day-long classes on a variety of engaging topics, from civic engagement to inclusion in community service. Participants will have the unique opportunity to go on-site visits to local nonprofits and attend a few optional evening events. The program will focus on connecting participants with nonprofit organizations that work towards a healthy, vibrant, and age-friendly Kansas City.

During the nonprofit site visits, participants will be able to see first-hand the kind of impact these organizations have on our communities, learn about each nonprofit's mission, and get a better understanding of how volunteers help achieve each organization reaches its goals. Plus, this type of program is a perfect place to meet new, like-minded people, find camaraderie and friendship, and have a little fun. Participation in Give 5 is completely free of charge, and lunch will be provided each class day.

Classes span April through June on Thursdays or Fridays. If you are a retired resident of Cass, Clay, Jackson, Platte, or Ray County interested in participating in Give 5, please review and complete the participant application. Applications are accepted on a first-come basis and are due by March 23, so don't wait!

Do you know of a nonprofit that could use volunteers from this program? MARC is also recruiting nonprofit organizations to host Take 5 site visits and accept program volunteers. The nonprofit selection period for the spring Give 5 classes has closed, but MARC is accepting applications for future classes, so please don't hesitate to apply. You can call 816.474.4240 or submit an application for more information.
