David A. Hurt was born and raised in Hannibal, Missouri. He graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He and his wife Stacy raised their two sons, Cameron and Andrew, in Lee's Summit.

David spent his career at Burns & McDonnell Engineering. He was very enthusiastic about planning and designing transportation projects including highways, bridges, and trails. Throughout his career, he was a mentor to many.

He had a love of life, a zest for learning, and a strong sense of community. His connection to his hometown of Hannibal and the Lee's Summit area, where his family placed their roots, has built a strong foundation and interest in the success of those in both communities.

The David Hurt Memorial Scholarship was established by his family and friends to honor his legacy. It is the hope that through the support of this scholarship, graduates of both Hannibal Senior High School and Lee's Summit R-7 High Schools with a passion for Engineering will achieve their educational goals.
