On Saturday, April 29, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Youth Advisory Council (YAC) members and a few caring adult volunteers will be stationed outside four different Hy-Vee locations in the area. YAC members will be collecting nonperishable food items and household goods from patrons on behalf of the Raytown Emergency Assistance Program (R.E.A.P.), Lee's Summit Social Services, and Community Services League.

We would welcome anyone from our network of friends to participate in this effort. Visit YAC volunteers at the Hy-Vee located at 40 Hwy and 7 Hwy in Blue Springs, 40 Hwy and Noland in Independence, 3rd and Ward in Lee's Summit, or 350 Hwy in Raytown and help YAC Fill Those Trucks! Some of the most needed items are soaps and cleaners, personal hygiene and feminine products, canned or boxed foods, healthy foods, and nutritious snacks. Unfortunately, the students cannot accept perishable items like milk, bread, or eggs. But they can accept cash, which they will use to purchase items to be donated.

YAC introduces high school students throughout the area to the concept of philanthropy. By volunteering at events like this food drive, assisting in the foundation's grantmaking process, and practicing collaboration over competition, YAC members can significantly impact their communities.

Do you know a student who might be a good fit for the Youth Advisory Council? Contact Diana Castillo, Director of Grants and Donor Services, to learn what's involved in becoming a member. And we look forward to seeing you on April 29!
