Metropolitan Community College (MCC) has been a cornerstone of education and workforce development in Kansas City for over a century, going far beyond academics to drive meaningful community change.

Through philanthropy, leadership, and strategic initiatives, MCC has strengthened its role as a catalyst for regional growth, ensuring that education remains accessible while addressing workforce and economic challenges. Led by Chancellor Dr. Kimberly Beatty, MCC's workforce of over 2400 staff are building futures for over 17,000 students per year.

Philanthropy and Student Support

The MCC Foundation, established in 1976, has been instrumental in providing scholarships, emergency aid, and resources for students-many of whom are first-generation college attendees or in financial need. MCC's largest-ever fundraising effort, The Path Forward Capital Campaign, raised nearly $60 million to construct new academic facilities, expand workforce development programs, and support student scholarships, transforming lives and preparing a skilled workforce for the future.

Workforce and Economic Development

MCC has taken a leadership role in addressing regional employment needs. MCC was an active partner in the Job Skills for New Careers initiative that was founded by Truman Heartland Community Foundation. Through our program and through some of their own Job Skills programming, the college has worked with community partners to provide training and career pathways in high-demand industries. By aligning its 2022-2031 Strategic Plan with employer needs, MCC has enhanced its technical and skilled-trades programs, reinforcing its role as an economic driver in Greater Kansas City.

Community Leadership and Civic Engagement

Under the leadership of Chancellor Kimberly Beatty, MCC has deepened its commitment to civic engagement. The Civic Action Plan, launched in 2022, encourages students and faculty to engage in service initiatives that promote social equity and sustainability. Chancellor Beatty herself serves in leadership roles on influential boards, including the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, Civic Council, Downtown Council, University Health, and the Kansas City Sports Commission, ensuring MCC plays a pivotal role in regional development.

A Lasting Commitment to Kansas City

MCC's dedication to educational access, workforce training, and civic responsibility continues to uplift individuals and strengthen the community. Whether through scholarships, strategic industry partnerships, or advocacy for a stronger, more inclusive workforce, MCC's impact extends far beyond its campuses, shaping the future of Kansas City for generations to come.
