Students
Harvey and Lois House’s oldest child, Rachel, was a bright star. Growing up in Grain Valley, she was an outstanding student and a member of the National Honor Society. In addition to her academics, Rachel was active in everything from band and choir to cheerleading and track.
Rachel left home to attend college at Northwest Missouri State University, where she remained active in cheerleading as a varsity cheerleader. Rachel graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Corporate Fitness. After college, Rachel landed her dream job as a personal trainer with a major Kansas City business and married her college sweetheart. One month after her wedding, while driving home from work, Rachel was tragically killed in a car accident. She was 21 years old.
Through their heartbreak, Harvey and Lois have continued to find solace in the knowledge that Rachel is in heaven. During her short life, Rachel gave Harvey and Lois many things about which to be proud. But they are most proud of Rachel’s positive moral character influenced by her strong Christian faith. In the years since Rachel passed away, Harvey and Lois have poured the grief of her loss into honoring and remembering Rachel’s character. This scholarship will support graduating seniors from Eastern Jackson County with strong faith and moral character similar to Rachel’s.
