Jim Scheerer was a Raytown resident and 1961 graduate of Raytown High School. Following graduation, he started working for Western Electric in Lee's Summit, where he worked for 35+ years, operating machinery that made components for telephones and phone lines. His life passion was working on and racing cars, which began in his teenage years and continued throughout his adult life.
After retiring from his longtime job, he and a partner opened Missouri Performance Outlet in Blue Springs, which operated for 10+ years as a source of street and race car parts, race fuel, nitrous, and car related shenanigans. During his racing career he set multiple national records, won dozens of trophies, and many race events, including track and/or season championships. Highlights of his racing career include being the only racer known to compete at the first event at Kansas City International Raceway (KCIR) in the 60's and the last event in 2011, and winning his eliminator class in the KCIR AHRA national event in 1969.
