Gene Cable, owner along with his wife Joanne, of Cable Chevrolet for nearly 40 years, actively served and supported the Eastern Jackson County region both with talent and treasure until his passing in 2022 at the age of 96. Gene and Joanne’s leadership and financial contributions to the community are numerous and led to great respect and admiration from many.
Joanne established this scholarship in memory of Gene in the hopes that it will support others who are pursuing careers in the automotive industry.
Eligibility:
- Must be enrolling full-time in the Associate in Applied Science degree program in Automotive Technology at MCC-Longview;
- Must have demonstrated financial need.
Amount:
Up to $5,000 per academic year.
Renewable:
Yes, this scholarship may be renewed for an additional year of funding if candidate submits a renewal application including documentation of earning a minimum 2.0 GPA and continued enrollment.
Deadline:
Applications must be submitted by April 15.
Requirements:
- Resume: Attach a resume detailing school-related activities, community involvement, work history, and/or family responsibilities;
- FAFSA Student Aid Report showing Student Aid Index amount;
- Personal Essay: Attach an essay of approximately 500 words that details your passion for the automotive career field. Please note that this essay WILL NOT be judged on technical writing capability and is only intended for the purpose of learning about you and your hopes and dreams.
