Each year, Truman Heartland recognizes a corporate citizen whose generosity in charitable giving has a tremendous impact on the region we serve. We consider it a privilege to recognize those companies whose philanthropy makes our Eastern Jackson County community a better place to live and serve.
Summit Homes is a Berkshire-Hathaway-backed company that has built more than 3,000 homes since opening in 2002. The Summit Homes team has won more than 150 awards for excellence and has been named among Kansas City Business Journal’s Champions of Business, Builder Magazine’s Top 10 Up-and-Coming Building Firms, and the Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing Private Companies in America. This year, Truman Heartland Community Foundation is proud to add to their recognition list with the Truman Heartland Corporate Citizen of the Year award.
What started as a one-time St. Jude’s Dream Home build, grew into more than a decade of corporate charitable giving. Just last week, Summit Homes hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a stunning 7-bedroom home at Drumm Farm Center for Children. Brad Smith, Executive Director of Drumm Farm, had shared his dream with the team at Summit Homes, showing them the tremendous impact they could have on the lives of local children in foster care. Summit Homes leadership didn’t hesitate to reach out to their contractors and partners, engage them in the project, and provide an energy-efficient home customized for a new foster family. In the last lot available on the Drumm Farm property, this million-dollar home was built 100 percent free of charge. And that is just one project this amazing company has taken on in Eastern Jackson County.
Summit Homes does so much more than offer financial support to organizations making a difference in our communities; leadership and staff are actively engaged in volunteering, giving freely of their time, talent, and expertise. Summit Homes walks the talk when it comes to philanthropy, from hosting career days so kids can learn about construction trade opportunities to distributing diapers and other needs for children and local families. Harvesters, Boys & Girls Clubs of Kansas City, Happy Bottoms, and Hope Haven are just a few recipients of Summit Homes’ generosity.
It is the privilege of the Truman Heartland Board of Directors to name Summit Homes our 2022 Corporate Citizen of the Year.
