We were deeply humbled and honored to be named the Honorary Chair at the inaugural Hooray for Englewood Gala, held on May 31 at the Englewood Arts Center.
This red-carpet affair was a dazzling celebration of community, creativity, and revitalization — and we were truly moved to be recognized among so many passionate champions of the arts.
The Hooray for Englewood event brought the glamour of classic Hollywood to the heart of Independence, all in support of the inspiring mission of Englewood Arts. The beautiful evening featured community spirit, vintage attire, and a shared vision for a thriving creative district — and it was all set beneath the stars, in the buzzing outdoor space of the newly renovated arts center.
During the program, our Foundation was recognized for our longstanding support of Englewood Arts, and CEO Phil Hanson accepted the honor on behalf of our Board, staff, and donors.
In a heartfelt moment, Englewood Arts Director, Teresa Dorsch, shared these powerful words:
“There is so much I can share. From the very beginning, you believed in the vision of Englewood Arts. When we were just a small, scrappy group of go-getters, your early and generous support tremendously helped us — by giving others the confidence to support our mission, encouraging us to move forward with our housing initiatives, and helping us transform a dilapidated building into what it is today: a welcoming community arts center here in Independence.”
“Your ongoing support of Englewood Arts has been truly instrumental in our journey, laying the groundwork for the programs we’re celebrating tonight.”
At Truman Heartland Community Foundation, we are proud to invest in local leaders and organizations that build stronger communities — and Englewood Arts is a shining example. Since acquiring their building in 2019, they have transformed it into a vibrant hub for visual arts, performing arts, and culinary arts — offering everything from glassblowing workshops and kids’ camps to live performances and creative learning opportunities for all ages.
Proceeds from the Gala will support their continued growth, including expanded programming, additional classes and workshops, and upgrades to make the facility more accessible to all.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Englewood Arts team for an unforgettable evening and a remarkable journey — one that we are proud to walk alongside. It was an evening filled with gratitude, celebration, and community — and one we won’t soon forget.
