An Investment in Our Students and Our Future
It’s scholarship season at your Community Foundation! Students across the area have been busy applying to the more than 90 scholarships available at Truman Heartland Community Foundation. Thanks to our generous scholarship fund holders there’s more than $200,000 available for students this year. These donors are passionate about education and know the transformative impact that their financial support can have on a student’s success.

Students like Tristen Caudle, a Raytown native, THCF scholarship recipient and recent UMKC graduate. Tristen is now an Associate Economist at Spectrum Economics and an avid volunteer for the American Cancer Society, chairing their National Campus Leadership Team. He works with students across the nation to develop strategies and programs that enhance service-learning opportunities and engage youth volunteers in the fight against cancer.

“An investment in a student is a big opportunity,” says Tristen. “The impact that you can have in their lives is immeasurable.”

There are a lot of great ways to invest in your community. A scholarship fund at THCF shows students you care and helps them achieve their educational dreams. Our professional staff helps with every step, from creating the scholarship application and publicizing the opportunity to sending award letters and processing payments.

If you are 70½ and have a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) that you must take from your IRA, a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA to your THCF scholarship fund can fulfill your RMD and you would not have to claim the donated portion of your RMD on your income taxes. There are several advantages to using your IRA to fund your scholarship fund. Please contact us if you have any questions about this process or want to learn more about THCF scholarship funds.
