A Special Evening at our Citizen’s Reception
By Truman Heartland Community Foundation / September 6, 2016

The Foundation’s Annual Citizen’s Reception was a great success on Friday, August 26. It’s one of my favorite events of the year where the focus is on the Citizens of the Year selected by the Mayors of seven Eastern Jackson County communities. It’s always very uplifting to hear from the Mayors the impact these Citizens of the Year have made in their communities. They are unsung heroes who are not looking for recognition but certainly deserve the recognition they are receiving. In addition to the Mayors and their honorees we also had our Patron and Benefactor Sponsors, the other Honorees who will be recognized at the Gala, Foundation Board members and Gala Committee members bringing the total 97.

This gathering of nearly 100 was graciously hosted by Dr. Steve Silverstein at his wonderful home on Lake Winnebago. We caught a break with the weather and were able to enjoy Dr. Silverstein’s spectacular lakeside/pool side garden and entertainment area. You may recall this is the evening when we had record torrential rains causing flash flooding in many areas of town. At our event we had a great vantage point to enjoy a very nice sunset looking west over lake with the rain clouds gathering on the horizon. Dr. Silverstein encouraged his guests to go inside and wander around his home and he even personally provided a tour for some. He could not have been more welcoming and gracious.

Community America Credit Union was our Event Sponsor providing fabulous food and beverage for all our attendees. Rick Schier, Senior VP for Community America helped welcome the crowd and shared why they strongly support this event and also announced that two new credit union locations will be coming soon to Lee’s Summit. We are very grateful for their sponsorship again this year of our Citizen’s Reception.

The primary focus of the evening was on our Citizen of the Year honorees and hearing about them from their Mayor. We have talked about them in previous e newsletters and press release regarding these individuals who help make their community a great community.

Many of you have probably already made plans to join us on Saturday September 17th for Our Toast to Our Towns Gala at the Sheraton Crown Center. If plan to attend and don’t have your tickets yet, tickets are still available.

We look forward to seeing many of you at our community celebration of people who make this such a great community.
