This is a critical time for nonprofits and agencies that serve those most vulnerable in our community. Truman Heartland Community Foundation is dedicated to our commitment of supporting local nonprofits as they face an increase in demand for services, decreased revenues and increased operational expenses caused by the pandemic. This page offers important considerations to help nonprofits navigate resources available to nonprofits during this crisis. We launched a new COVID-19 section on our website to help Truman Heartland fundholders learn about and donate to nonprofit organizations that are working hard to continue to serve those most at risk in our Eastern Jackson County community even in the face of this challenge.
With $2 trillion in federal emergency assistance, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) contains several provisions for nonprofit organizations:

On April 1, Nonprofit Connect held a webinar with Terry Mosteller, Founding Attorney of Mission Counsel, who shared up-to-date information regarding how the law is responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, and how this will affect nonprofits. Nonprofit Connect is providing the recording and slides free for the community.

In addition to traditional SBA funding programs, the CARES Act established several new temporary programs to address the COVID-19 outbreak. Including:
Paycheck Protection Program (PPP)
Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) & Emergency Grants
When applying for the loan, you can also ask for an Emergency Grant of up to $10,000 that does not have to be paid back, even if your application is later denied.

Passed March 19, This bill includes a complex set of temporary paid leave mandates and employer reimbursement provisions, as well as funding for free coronavirus testing, food nutrition security, and Unemployment extension.
