Phillip J. Hanson, MPA, President & CEO

Phil Hanson became President & CEO of the Truman Heartland Community Foundation on January 4, 2010.  Raised in Raytown and now residing in Kansas City's Brookside neighborhood, Phil has served the Kansas City nonprofit community for more than 25 years.

A graduate of Rockhurst University and the University of Missouri at Kansas City's MPA program, Phil joins the Community Foundation from the American Lung Association of the Central States where he was the Senior Vice President of Resource Development. He also served as a Senior Vice President of Development for the United Way of Greater Kansas City from 1983 to 2006.  Phil is an Eagle Scout and an active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Kansas City.

Beverly J. Powell, CPA, Chief Financial Officer

Beverly J. Powell became Chief Financial Officer of the Truman Heartland Community Foundation in July of 2008.  Beverly is also a Certified Public Accountant with more than 35 years of experience working in the Kansas City area, with 30 years as the sole proprietor of her own firm.

She graduated from the University of Missouri at Columbia with a B.S. in Accounting in May 1971, and was certified by the Missouri State Board of Accountancy in February 1972. She has been a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants since June of 1972, a member of the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants since June of 1972, and a member of the Missouri Association of Tax Practitioners.  Beverly also serves on the board of Hillcrest Ministries and is a member of Noland Road Baptist Church in Independence.

Elizabeth McClure, Director of Programs & Donor Services

Liz McClure joined the Truman Heartland Community Foundation in the fall of 1994 and currently serves as the Director of Programs & Donor Services.  Prior to joining THCF, Liz served as Administrative Assistants for City Mayor Barbara Potts of Independence, MO; Richard A. King of Wirken & King, PC; and real estate attorneys from Mark W. Untersee & Associates, PC.

Liz earned a B.A. in Music Education from the University of Missouri at Kansas City.  She also shares a history of involvement in civic organizations such as the Andrew Drumm Institute, Family Literacy Center, Junior Service League of Independence, Youth Friends, Volunteer Coordinators’ Council, Community Association for the Arts and Messiah Lutheran Church.

Nicole Stevens, MBA Director of Marketing & Communications

Nicole Stevens joined the staff of Truman Heartland Community Foundation in the spring of 2003.  She currently serves as the Director of Marketing & Communications.  Nicole earned a B.A. in Business Administration and Spanish and American Humanics certification from William Jewell College.  Bilingual in Spanish, Nicole studied at the University of Guadalajara in Jalisco, Mexico and graduated in May of 2009 with her MBA, emphasis in Finance, from the University of Missouri at Kansas City.

Nicole shares a passion for civic engagement having served as Treasurer for the American Humanics National Alumni Association, and Leadership Facilitator for the Independence Chamber of Commerce YOUTH LEAD.  Nicole has also served on boards for the Jackson County Historical Society, Junior Service League of Independence and William Jewell College Board of Commission and is an active member of William Jewell College Board of Governors and First Baptist Church of Blue Springs.
