The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) was formed in 1998 as a program of THCF to involve young leaders in changing the future through the power of philanthropy. YAC has grown to a council of 50 student leaders committed to improving the lives of children and young people across the KC community. YAC is represented by the following area high schools and welcomes participation from other metro school districts: Blue Springs, Blue Springs South, Fort Osage, Grain Valley, Lee's Summit, Lee's Summit North, Lee's Summit West, Raytown, Raytown South, Truman and William Chrisman. Grant Making
What would you do with $100,000? Through participation in the foundation’s Community Grants Program, each year student leaders offer a tremendous voice for area youth; members review all proposals serving KC’s youth and teen population and then make funding recommendations to adult board leaders. Students evaluate programs ranging from domestic violence and teen homelessness to community arts programming and education. Decisions are tough but rewards are great as students change the future for their peers.
Endowment Building
Why build an endowment? Every year during the Community Grants Program, funding requests for youth resources exceed funding available by hundreds of thousands of dollars. Our student leaders have responded by “Caring today for a giving tomorrow”, a $1 Million Endowment Campaign to provide a permanent pool of resources for youth needs. Funds raised will produce annual grants of $50,000 to benefit KC’s youth and teen population. If you are considering a gift of impact, consider supporting the YAC Endowment Fund today.
