Your Benefits

Many donors choose the Truman Heartland Community Foundation because they like the convenience of one-stop giving. The Foundation offers donors a number of benefits which may not be available through direct giving to particular charities or through private foundations.

Likewise, organizations that establish accounts with the Foundation can also benefit by increasing support fo their charitable mission.

Choice

The donor may determine the purpose for which gifts are to be used, or may entrust all or part of that decision to the Foundation's staff and Board of Directors.

Permanence

Since the Foundation emphasizes investment of principal and distribution only of income as charitable grants, donors' gifts will continue giving to the community in perpetuity.

Growth in Giving Power

The Foundation's Finance Committee, through observance of carefully articulated policy and use of the nation's top professional investment firms, is dedicated not only to preserving principal and generating income for grants, but also to growing the principal of endowment assets to yield greater good in the future.

Tax Benefits

A gift or bequest to the Foundation qualifies for maximum deductibility for tax purposes by virtue of the Foundation's public status. Contributions to a private foundation or bank charitable trust are not as advantageous.

Security and Accountability

The donor is assured of careful stewardship of gifted assets through the Foundation's use of leading investment managers, employment of professional auditors and annual publication of its financial report.

Opportunity for Named Funds

Funds may be identified with the name of an individual, family, corporation or organization. Donors are given the opportunity to indicate a fund's intended purpose. Funds eventually become permanent memorials to those who have cared about the community.

New Charitable Initiatives

The flexibility permitted community foundations by the IRS Code enables donors to use its "fiscal sponsorship" for charitable projects and start-up non-profit organizations.
