Truman Heartland has taken a needs-based approach to long-term philanthropy since 1982. Staff and board members listen to residents and leaders about the issues and challenges they face; help communities assess and prioritize; and, most importantly, identify resources to create successful strategies.
We conduct an ongoing program of needs assessments throughout the heartland region which includes Jackson, Cass, Clay, Lafayette, and Platte counties. In response to community-wide assessments, THCF has created both a Community Grants Program and Scholarship Program. THCF makes annual awards from Community Grants Funds to improve area communities; any nonprofit serving our region is invited to submit an application for funding. Awards are presented at our annual Grant Awards Luncheon in November.
THCF’s Scholarship Program is comprised of more than 140 Scholarship Funds established by donors committed to supporting students pursuing a number of educational disciplines. Our scholarship fundholders collectively grant hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to students continuing their education. Any student seeking a vocational, undergraduate, graduate and/or professional degree is invited to participate in our application process. Awards are presented at our annual Scholarship Reception in May.
