Grants and scholarships for the purpose of improving area communities are at the heart of effective community foundations. In the last year alone Truman Heartland Community Foundation donors have granted more than $3.5 million from their funds to support a variety of charitable programs!
In the early years, exemplary local donors established Unrestricted Funds with estate gifts to fund future community needs. Today more than $150,000 is awarded to Kansas City nonprofits every year, in their honor, through the Community Grants Program. Our Board of Directors closely administers the program to ensure that grants address both present and future community needs. Through an ongoing program of needs assessments, THCF listens to residents and leaders to learn of funding priorities for local communities. Those priorities are reflected in each year’s Community Grants recipients. Photos of the 2015 Grant luncheon where awards were presented can be found on our Facebook page.
Throughout the last 33 years, many donors have also generously committed to supporting student education. Today, more than 100 donors offer scholarships through their funds at Truman Heartland. Any student seeking a vocational, undergraduate, graduate and/or professional degree is invited to participate in submitting applications.
