Biking and Nature Enthusiast Believes in Balanced Living and Giving
Debra Wood grew up in a church-going family, where she learned the importance of giving back. As an adult, Debra found the same quality at her workplace. She retired from DST Systems, Inc., after a 26-year career as a technical trainer. Through DST’s Matching Gifts program, Debra was able to double her charitable impact.
When her financial advisor approached her about starting a Donor Advised Fund at Truman Heartland Community Foundation, Debra thought it was a perfect fit for her style of giving.
“I started an individual fund at the Foundation because I wanted my personal outlook on life to be reflected in my giving. And, for it to inspire others who might see the world as I do,” she said.
Debra is passionate about nature, active living, helping those less fortunate, and supporting women and girls. She appreciates the professional advice from Foundation staff about which charities can best help her achieve her charitable goals. Debra also enjoys the tax benefits of having a fund at the Foundation and how easy it is to give to the causes that are important to her using her Donor Advised Fund.
