Boomers Get Connected Launch

As supporters of the Foundation, you have heard me and the team talk in great detail about our new initiative taking place in partnership with our Community for All Ages Coalition and United Way of Greater Kansas City. The wait is finally over, and I am proud to announce the official launch of Boomers Get Connected.

For the next 12 years, 500 Baby Boomers in Eastern Jackson County will reach retirement age each month, nearly doubling the size of the Boomer population in our community. Our goal was to create an environment that empowers Boomers to utilize their time, talent, and energy by offering them a platform that makes volunteering easy. Through this new initiative, we have taken the first steps in making this goal a reality. You can create your own user profile on Get Connected and get started with volunteering here.

If you are looking to take this information to your local community volunteer center, church group, or even a few friends, we at the Foundation have created resources that can help you get started. We've attached a helpful one sheet with all the information you'll need about Boomers Get Connected here. You can download and print it right at home or at your office. We will also have plenty of these printed off and available at the Foundation office if you would prefer to pick them up here.

The long-term goal of Boomers Get Connected is to have 600 Boomers utilizing the Boomers Get Connected site by October 1, 2018. This number will account for 10% of the 500 Boomers in our area reaching age 65 each month signed up to use the site to locate organizations in which they can volunteer. This is an ambitious goal that we at the Foundation are excited to work toward achieving. This is just the first step toward a much larger goal of engaging the Baby Boomer generation in a broader mission of philanthropy and volunteerism.

I would like to thank our Community for All Ages Coalition for their hard work leading up to this launch and the hard work they will put it for the next year. Our Community for all Ages Coalition has more than 60 members from all sectors of our community: businesses, Chambers of Commerce, City Government, the Faith Community, Health Care, Nonprofits, Developers.

Thank you again for being a part of our family here at the Foundation and for taking the time in your day to read this and share this opportunity with friends and family. It is with your support and hard work that our efforts succeed. We are excited about our “Boomers Get Connected” initiative in partnership with the Greater Kansas City United Way. If you have ideas or suggestions for me on how we can help “Boomers Get Connected” please share those with me. Your ideas are appreciated.
